The Drawer

Earlier in the day I was searching to discover a close pin that I absolutely one hundred percent knew was in the junk drawer in my kitchen. I looked through the piles of clutter and random odds and ends, but to no avail. This day I opened my messages and there was an email from Real Simple on none other than THE junk drawer. Wow. It’s Fate. Of course , I decided it would most likely be a great idea for me to reach out to all you fellow owners of “THE drawer.” You know what it is. Where it is. Not exactly what’s in it, but you know precisely what I’m talking about. No more hiding behind that organized facade. Let’s get it out there and conquer it together. Here are a couple steps that can perhaps save us all from certain disorganization.

1. Take everything out. We’ve all tested the old habit of pulling it into the sides that seems like it would save time. It doesn’t .

2. Sort, sort, sort. Spread it all out and think to yourself, “Have I used this in the past six months ?” If your response is no, trash it. If it is, “No, but I might need it,” trash it. Maybe watch an episode of TLC’s show “Hoarders” to get in the spirit .

3. Try to organize the contents. Take out the things that have a more appropriate location , and use jars, baskets , etc to put the left over pieces of “treasure” (no more trash, so what remains must be treasure?) in.

4. Put it back. Do this in a way that makes sense to you. And also that makes your heart pleased as you open the drawer. There’s no harm in having a cute junk drawer.

So there you have it. Take it or leave it, but in the world of organization, evermore remember that you have to throw things out to realize what you really like. You may also like our houses on College Station Real Estate or San Antonio Houses . Happy organizing from your Cortiers Blogger!
